Relying on ‘dominant’ Onuaku to hit 34 3-pointers…Goyang Sono wins 4th straight
Not quite the 30% mark. However, the advantage in total volume was the difference between victory and defeat.
Head coach Kim Seung-ki’s Goyang Sono rode the strength of Chinanu Onuaku, who dominated the paint like a dragonfly, to a 71-66 victory over the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis in the 2023-2024 Pro Basketball League on Wednesday at Dongcheon Gymnasium in Ulsan, South Korea.
With their fourth straight win, Sono moved to fifth place (8-8), while Hyundai Mobis dropped to seventh (8-9).
Onuaku scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds on the night, the most of any player on either team, while Onuaku’s poise under the basket proved to be the difference in the game, as Sono shot 10 of 34 (29.4 percent) from beyond the arc.
Hyundai Mobis hit 8 of 20 three-pointers for a 40 percent success rate, but fell short in the total.
The two teams were tied at 16 two-pointers on the night, and free throw attempts were actually the key indicator of the game, with SONO leading Hyundai Mobis (9) by one point over Hyundai Mobis (8).
Coach Kim Seung-ki’s call for more three-pointers than two-pointers is a departure from the Udangdajim’s pattern of driving to the basket and scoring. 토토
If all of the players have the ability to shoot three-pointers, and if they’re going to take advantage of their one offensive opportunity, why not?
A lively perimeter offense that sparks off of each other can be exciting for fans.
Onuaku posted a double-double for the second straight game and was supported by point guard Lee Jung-hyun (16 points).
For Hyundai Mobis, Kim Kook-chan scored 17 points, Ham Ji-hoon had 15 points and Gage Prim contributed 13 points (5 treys), but played a supporting role as SONO’s Onuaku took control in the battle for the basket.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Escape (SK) snapped a three-game losing streak with an 85-71 victory over Jeong Kwanjang in the nightcap.
SK is now in fourth place (9-7), while Jung Kwanjang, which has lost five straight, is in fifth (9-9).
