Warts and all at the end… Jeonbuk suffers humiliating defeat at the hands of Ryan City, with a place in the round of 16 now out of reach
Jeonbuk Hyundai suffered a humiliating defeat in Singapore.
Jeonbuk suffered a 0-2 defeat against Ryan City in their 2023-2024 Asian Football Confederation Champions League (ACL) Group F fourth leg match at Singapore’s Jalan Besar Stadium on Monday.
Jeonbuk failed to catch up with group leader Bangkok United (Thailand, 9 points) with two wins, two losses and six points.
The gap would widen to six points if Bangkok were to get a bye in this round.
That’s a red light to win the group. Even second place is far from assured, with Ryan City tied on points.
It’s a humiliating stretch considering they’re in the weakest group, having avoided all the East Asian powerhouses like Japan, China, and Australia. For Lion City, the loss is even more shocking because they’re a few levels below them.
Jeonbuk lined up with Park Jae-yong up front and Moon Sun-min and Lee Dong-joon on the left and right flanks.
Jun Amano was in the center of the second line, with Baek Seung-ho and Lee Soo-bin protecting the back.
The back four consisted of Jung Woo-jae, Jung Tae-wook, Koo Ja-ryong, and Choi Cheol-soon. Jung Min-ki was in goal. 안전토토사이트
Jeonbuk took the initiative in the early stages of the game and pushed their opponents.
However, they were unable to effectively break through Lion City’s tight defense.
Instead, Jeonbuk conceded the first goal in the 23rd minute.
A long pass from the back was headed down by Showal Anouar on the left side of the penalty box.
Hikailu Djivkovic, who had penetrated into the center of the box, rattled the net with a powerful right-footed shot.
In the process, the Jeonbuk center back combination was left helpless.
Spurred on, Jeonbuk attacked more aggressively and looked for an equalizer, but went into halftime without a goal.
At the start of the second half, Jeonbuk took off Lee Soo-bin and put Gustavo on the field to help the team attack.
As if that wasn’t enough, Jeonbuk conceded an additional goal in the final 10 minutes.
Anouar got the ball on the counterattack and connected with a pass from Zivkovic, who slotted it home.
It was the moment Jeonbuk fell behind 0-2.
Jeonbuk became urgent and mobilized all of its offensive resources, including Han Gyo-won and Song Min-gyu, to try to turn the tide in the final minutes.
Jeonbuk wasted a late chance to catch up.
Gustavo stepped up to take the penalty kick in the 45th minute, but his kick went wide of the goal.
In effect, we missed our last chance to score.
Eight minutes of extra time were awarded, but the game remained scoreless.
In the end, Jeonbuk was defeated without a single goal.
