Choi Sung-won
South Korean billiards standout Choi Sung-woo (Seoul City Hall-Silk Road & T) has been ranked No. 1 in the world.
Choi earned 358 points in the 29th UMB Rankings released by the World Chromium Billiards Federation (UMB) on Jan. 31 (KST) to take the top spot in the rankings.
Choi finished 13th at the 2023 World 3-Cushion Billiards World Cup in Weggel, Germany, adding 18 ranking points to his tally, putting him one point ahead of Marco Zanetti (ITA) with 357 points.
Choi has been on a roll since winning the World 3-Cushion Billiards Championship in Egypt last December.
He continued to rack up the points with back-to-back podium finishes, including a three-cushion win at the Asian Carom Championships in Yanggu, Gangwon Province in March, a runner-up finish at the Ho Chi Minh City Three-Cushion Billiards World Cup in May, and a third-place finish at the Ankara Three-Cushion Billiards World Cup in September.
This makes Choi the first South Korean player to reach the top of the world rankings in eight years and six months, since Choi Sung-won reached the top spot on April 4, 2015.
Choi will attempt to retain his No. 1 ranking at the Seoul 2023 3-Cushion Billiards World Cup, which will take place from November 6-12 at the Taereung Athletic Center in Seoul, South Korea. 19가이드03
