Munich’s Kim Min-jae rested, securing a 4-0 win over a third-division side in the first leg of the Pokal competition.

Bayern Munich (GER), resting international defender Kim Min-jae, has advanced to the second round of the German Football Association (DFB) Pokal.

The Bavarians cruised to a 4-0 victory over third-division side Prussia Münster in the first leg of the 2023-2024 DFB Pokal on Sunday (July 27) at the Prussia-Stadion in Münster, Germany.

Kim Min-jae was left out of the starting lineup.

“Munich is without the not-quite-fit Kim Min-jae,” said DPA news agency, adding that the Bavarians were also without center backs Dayo Upamecano and Matthias Düricht.

“England captain Harry Kane has also been rested,” it added.

German daily Bild reported that Munich coach Thomas Tuchel said, “Upamecano will have to be watched more closely. He recently showed signs of potential discomfort after the international break,” Tuchel was quoted as saying, adding, “Kim Min-jae also needs to clarify this.”

Munich, meanwhile, took the lead in the ninth minute through Eriks Maxime Choupo-Moting.

Konrad Reimer doubled the lead in the 40th minute, and Frans Krejci sealed the deal just before halftime with his first-team debut.

Munich will next host Leipzig on January 1 in the sixth round of the 2023-2024 Bundesliga.
