The Semi-Automated Offside Ticketing (SAOT) system that was so well-received at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be introduced at the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Qatar Asian Cup.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced today (Jan. 19) that it will introduce a semi-automated offside assistant referee system for the Qatar Asian Cup.

This is the first time that semi-automated offside judgment has been used in a continental competition, including the Asian Cup.
For the tournament, 12 specialized cameras on the pitch will determine whether a player is offside by looking at the ball and the player’s body position, including limbs. 토토

If a player in an offside position touches the ball, an alert will immediately sound in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room.

The referee makes the final decision.
Offside is committed when a player passes the ball to an attacking teammate and there are not at least two players from the opposing team in front of the recipient.

It’s one of the most difficult fouls to catch in soccer, and it’s also one of the most controversial.
To improve the accuracy of offside decisions, FIFA first introduced a semi-automated review system at last year’s World Cup in Qatar that utilizes state-of-the-art camera tracking and human motion recognition technology.

The system was well-received, catching an offside call just three minutes into the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador.
South Korea also enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Portugal at the Qatar World Cup when Hwang Hee-chan’s goal off a pass from Son Heung-min was determined to be offside by the semi-automated system.
At the Asian Cup in Qatar, the system will show animated signs of offside on the scoreboard.
“The semi-automated offside assistant referee system will take Asia’s already world-class match officials to a higher level,” said Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation.
The 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qatar will be held in Qatar from January 12 to February 10 next year.
