A successful season on the Professional Golf Association of America (PGA) Tour is measured by the top 70 in the FedExCup standings.
Finishing in the top 70 on the regular tour’s FedExCup standings guarantees you a spot in the big-money playoffs and a spot in the following year’s events, including the PGA Championship.
But if you don’t make the top 70, you’ll miss out on the playoffs and have to fight tooth and nail for a spot in next year’s Fall Series.
The PGA Tour’s 3M Open ($8.1 million purse) at TPC Twin Cities (par-71) in Blaine, Minnesota, USA, is one of two remaining opportunities for players outside the top 70 in the FedExCup standings.
After this event, only the Wyndham Championship remains on the regular Tour.
The 70 playoff spots will be determined by the FedExCup Ranking at the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship, so players outside or near the top 70 will need to earn as many FedExCup Ranking points as possible at the 3M Open.
It would be great to win, but it’s more important to get as many points as possible at the top of the rankings.
Kim Sung-hyun, Lee Kyung-hoon, and Noh Seung-yeol are virtually drained in the 3M Open.
Kim is ranked 106th in the FedEx Cup, Lee is 112th, and Noh is 170th.
While it’s nice to see so many top-ranked players absent from the field, with not a single top-20 player in the world, it doesn’t mean the field is without depth.
World No. 21 Keegan Bradley (USA), who will captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team, two-time winner Akshay Bhatia (USA), runner-up in the Open, Billy Horschel (USA), Nick Dunlap (USA), who won the American Express as an amateur before turning pro and winning another Barracuda Championship on Sunday, Mortgage Classic champion Cameron Davis (AUS), and 2022 3M Open champion Tony Finau (USA) are all back after strong performances.
Lee Hodges (USA), who won last year with a tournament-record 24-under 260, will be looking to win his second straight event and move into the top 70 of the FedExCup Rankings.
Hodges is 73rd in the FedExCup standings. 안전놀이터
